Janie

Janie “Jenee” Midgley really needs no introduction.

It all began in 1973 with a Belly Dance lesson at the South San Francisco Parks and Rec Dept.  Having been fascinated with old Hollywood movies about harems, Genies and sundry and dancing to Miserlou with her Mom’s scarves at the tender age of 3.  It was obviously a past life thing, love at second life as it were.

Costuming for belly dancers “back in the day” was getting finger cymbals from the Oriental rug store and making the harem pants if you knew how to sew.  Janie knew how so she was the unofficial costumer for her troupe.  Learn from her tricks and tips that developed from making a living as a costume designer.  Her costume creations are recognized around the world.

Janie is a performer, her double sword is mesmerizing to watch, a generous and knowledgeable teacher and workshop instructor.  Janie is an accomplished author with two published books, “Costuming on a Budget” and “How to Build a Belly Dance Wardrobe”.  She was co-producer of the long lived Wiggles of the West and will launch a new competition in 2013!
